Elvish-Inspired Character Rings - Our Interpretation, Not Film Props

It is a matter of record that we made only three pieces for Peter Jackson’s films: the One Ring in all its appearances, Frodo Baggins’ silver chain, and Vilya, ring of Elrond. We did not make the other rings worn on screen.

What we have done is design our own versions of those rings, working from the descriptions in the books. For legal reasons we can’t use their names, so each carries the name of the actor we imagined it for. None of them is licensed merchandise.

The Four Designs

Each ring starts from a different description, and they wear very differently.

• Our Ring for Cate - our interpretation of the Ring of Water, with a single round stone of about 7mm held from underneath by claws, on a tapered, grooved band.
• Our Ring for Sir Ian - first made in 14ct yellow gold with an oval synthetic ruby, set in a bezel. A bold ring with a single strong stone.
• Our Ring for Viggo - a two-metal ring: a white gold or platinum band wrapped in yellow or red gold vines, originally set with a hexagon-cut emerald and small round emeralds for the eyes. In silver, the vines can be silver or gold.
• The Ring of Hugo - our recreation of the ring we designed and made for Hugo Weaving’s character. An oval stone of about 8x6mm in a bezel, on a tapered band with raised detail that can be polished or finished in black rhodium.

Choosing Metal and Stone

Every design comes in sterling silver as well as in 9ct to 18ct gold, with 22ct yellow gold and platinum on most. Silver is the natural first step; gold and platinum make a ring built for daily wear over many years.

Stones are offered in three kinds, and the difference matters for both price and meaning.

• Natural - grown and recovered from the ground.
• Lab grown - grown in a laboratory with the same make-up as the natural stone.
• Imitation - any stone, natural or lab grown, of the same colour.

Other stones, including sapphire, ruby, emerald and diamond, can be sourced on request.
