July's Ruby - the King of Gemstones
The Ruby is known as the King of Gemstones as it has been revered by aristocracy throughout time. This striking gemstone is the red variety of the mineral Corundum, which is the second hardest natural mineral known to exist, second only to the Diamond.
The brilliance of colour is determined by the amount of chromium and iron present in it. Variances of these minerals enable us to enjoy this stone in a range of red based colours, including pink and purple.
We set both smooth surfaced cabochon rubies as well as bright red cut rubies.
The New Zealand Jewellery Show
From this morning we are at the New Zealand Jewellery Show, which is at the SKYCITY Convention Centre in Auckland all weekend. The Show is an exhibition of New Zealand contemporary and fine jewellery by designers throughout the country. Among many other Jens Hansen pieces, we will be bringing some stunning rubies with us.
