NMIT awards jens hansen

NMIT students see excellence again

Each year, we offer a $1000 prize, the Jens Hansen Award for Excellence, to the top students in the Visual Art and Design at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology.

This is part of our ongoing support of, and involvement in, the arts in Nelson, which Jens was always a big part of.

The Awards Ceremony
This year, the Award is shared by Jacqui Clayton and Barbara Lawson. Congratulations to you both, you worked hard for this and the results were stunning.

Halfdan presenting the Award

"My father was a sculptor and an artist, and a huge supporter of the NMIT" said Halfdan at the ceremony, held on campus.

"I would like to congratulate the NMIT Creative Industries department for your continued passion for the local arts movement, and the way you provide different ways for your students to express themselves, such as with the Pop-up Lolly Pop showcase at Founders during the Nelson Arts Festival this year, the opportunity for students to curate exhibitions at the G-Space Gallery, your department’s involvement in the inaugural Light Nelson, and your support of installations at the Refinery Gallery – and many others.

NMIT is a fantastic launching pad for many talented artists, and I am sure Jacqui and Barbara will go on from here to achieve many great things, just as their predecessors have."
