Jens Hansen – Gold & Silversmith is the designer and maker of The Movie Ring* (the ring used in the filming of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies). The Replica Ring is our authentic custom recreation of The Movie Ring* and we are also proud to be the exclusive creators for Weta, under their Warner Bros. license, of the world's most accurate licensed The One Ring merchandise.
"My father knew and loved The Lord of the Rings and was very excited when he heard that Peter Jackson was going to film it in New Zealand. Then came a phone call asking if he would make the One Ring - he was thrilled and honoured." - Thorkild Hansen.
The movie's Academy Award winning Art Direction team first approached Jens Hansen about making the Ring in March 1999. Jens submitted 15 prototypes in a variety of weights and finishes, and from this extensive collection, the final Movie Ring* design was selected. This design has now become the “World’s Most Famous Ring”.
We all know there is only one The One Ring in the books, but Jens and his son, goldsmith Thorkild Hansen, made more than 40 variations for the films. These were scaled for different scenes and sized to suit its various owners - from smaller solid gold versions that perfectly fit Hobbit's fingers, to the 8 inch ring seen in the prologue spinning and turning through the air.
The Jens Hansen Replica Ring available here has been created with the same dedication, passion and craftsmanship as the original seen onscreen in The Fellowship of the Ring™, The Two Towers™, and The Return of the King™.
Different souvenir manufacturers in different countries make ‘officially approved and licenced’ The One Ring replicas but they vary significantly in weight, dimensions and design. Apart from the Jens Hansen ring, no other replica has the same look, feel and weight of the ring that Jens Hansen made for use in the movies. For more information, please read the independent report from Lunchip about the various available ring replicas.
NB: Jens Hansen are the original designers, makers and creators of the ring used on screen in the movie trilogies that were made here in New Zealand i.e. we made the actual ring you see in the movies.
