Modern transformation of heirloom diamonds

A holiday December visit into the Jens Hansen studio here in Nelson, culminated in the team handcrafting a beautiful new wedding ring for Rebecca Sturrock. Rebecca married Will O’Reilly in Sydney earlier this year, and recently they celebrated their nuptials back in Nelson with a family event.

We worked with the couple to handcraft an engagement/wedding ring using a classic Jens Hansen design and Rebecca’s very special heirloom stones. The quality diamonds we set into her beautiful ring were from four individual family rings including her mother’s engagement ring and a ring once owned by Rebecca’s grandmother.

Originally from Nelson, Rebecca moved away 20 years ago and eventually met Irishman William O’Reilly in Sydney.

“I was always familiar with Jens Hansen rings from my childhood, and I always liked the style of the workshop’s rings. It was of special significance to me that my wedding ring would be made from my mother’s and grandmother’s diamonds and designed and made in my home town,” says Rebecca.

Zane Colegate, one of Jens Hansen's in-house jewellers and diamond specialists, used the new bench microscope system in the workshop to professionally set Rebecca’s diamonds in 9ct Yellow Gold, across the contoured dome design.

As you can see from the photos below, the result was a beautiful and very special new ring for the couple.

Contact us or pop into the Nelson studio anytime if you have any heirloom stones you would like us to custom-make into a new much loved piece.
