On 21 July, we asked Nelsonians near and far: “If there was a ring that encompassed the spirit, beauty, geography, creativeness, or history of Nelson, what might it look like?” And to find out, we launched the Nelson Ring design competition, to give Nelsonians a chance to design and win the first ever Nelson Ring.

The iconic silver fern has long been recognised as a symbol of New Zealand. Wearing the Jens Hansen silver fern brooch (pictured top, opposite) is a stylish and understated way of showing our support for Aotearoa, and the All Blacks during the World Cup.
A customer asked us to transform this Victorian solid sterling silver serving spoon into a ring, with the original hallmarks on the outside. The spoon has been in the Nelson woman's family since the 1890's, and the completed ring was given to a daughter.
